About the Two‑Flat
A place of mystery, solace, and delight
An exhibit room, a small performance space, and a quiet room for contemplation, The Two-Flat is an evolving endeavor, shaped and built with the help of good friends.
The Two-Flat is a quiet refuge — a place where people can come to deepen connections with each other, with themselves, and with what lies beyond understanding. It’s a peaceful place, a quiet counterpoint to the noise of the world.
Like every human endeavor, it’s imperfect. But when things go well, it's a place of reverence for the mysteries of life and death, friendship and love, the sublime joy of daily life, the known and the unknowable.
Special Thanks
Ethan Sherry-Whitehead is, in many ways, my teammate on this project. Since the first days that I began envisioning what might become of these rooms he has been my thoughtful and inspiring collaborator. His ideas and his touch are apparent throughout. I'm grateful for his talent, discernment, labor, and his friendship. I am thankful for his kindness and for all that he continues to contribute.
Many people have contributed to this endeavor
Maggie Wenig knew me well and had already taught me a lot when I set out to make a contemplative place the first time, many years ago. She still helps me see the way.
Naomi Janowitz has been my friend since college. Her insights, encouragement, and faith in me give me hope and a sense of purpose.
Bruce Doblin has been with me every step of the way, offering encouragement, insight, and deeply valued friendship.
John Feldman shares his support in ways that are continually inspiring. He set a beautiful example for eccentric activities by building Curio Cowtown.
Lisa Wainwright helped me realize that what I was hoping to make was, in many ways, a chapel.
Walter Briggs was an early companion on this journey, helping me to imagine what each room might look like, always providing the friendship that reminded me why I’m dong this.
Stacza Lipinski inspires me with both her imagination and her soundness, and has brought delight to my life for years.
Thomas Corley offered valuable help with this website, and continually encourages me with his intelligence, thoughtfulness, and warmth.
Michael Salinas brings a sense of kindness and wit to my life and to all that he does. His friendship inspires me.
Chris Miller helps me astonishingly with countless practical ideas, extraordinary talent, and a shared faith in unusual, often unspoken, goals and understandings.
Ben Pond provides deep friendship and an invaluable artistic sounding board. His bold confidence and encouragement help keep me going.
Roger Mayer, my college professor and longtime friend, made it possible for me to make the first iteration of this place so many years ago. He somehow understood exactly what I was trying to do, and then he lent me his paint sprayer. His insight, kindness, and sense of humor have provided a welcome light of understanding for decades.
Josh Lowitz, my brother, helps me figure out the technical and financial parts of the enterprise, and underneath, he provides a support and faith in me that is truly invaluable.
Amy Wishnick, my sister, shares her deep understanding of how independent organizations develop over time, and always encourages me with her trust and caring.
Shana Lowitz, my mother, gives me the strength to think that what I do might be meaningful and valuable to others. She encourages me every day with her enthusiasm and kindness.
Donald Lowitz, my father, always shared with me his immense kindness, wisdom, and love. He gave me the freedom and the trust to exercise my imagination and to probe my innermost thoughts. I hold him in my mind and he makes my heart full.
